Mangalam Coalfield Private Limited is a mine developer and operator reviving the historic Amlabad pits in the Eastern Jharia Area of District Bokaro, Jharkhand — built on legacy, run to standard, and committed to responsible coal and cleaner energy.

Today, that commitment is expressed at Amlabad — a more than century-old underground colliery in the Eastern Jharia Area of District Bokaro that produces prime coking coal, the grade that feeds India's steel-making. Part of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a Coal India company, the mine had been closed since 2008. Mangalam Coalfield has been engaged as its mine developer & operator (MDO), on a long-term revenue-sharing basis, to bring it back to production — and to develop the coal bed methane held within the same seams as a cleaner energy stream.
The company operates to the Coal Mines Regulations 2017 and the Mines Act 1952, with qualified statutory officials in every mandated position.
Our founder's wish was that Amlabad should yield not only coal, but prosperous lives. On what would have been his 60th birth anniversary, in February 2026, his wife — Smt. Urmil Agarwal — inaugurated the Mangalam Chikitsalaya at the colliery, a hospital where treatment is free for our workforce and the villages around it. See the work we do →

Mangalam is led by a new generation of the founding family, carrying forward the values on which the company was built. Day to day, the colliery is run by qualified statutory officials in every position mandated by the Coal Mines Regulations 2017 — manager, engineers, safety, ventilation and survey — under the oversight of the Directorate General of Mines Safety.
