8. Brief Cause : Two outsiders unauthorisedly entered inside an opencast mine and while picking coal from abandoned top seam received serious injuries due to side fall to which they succumbed.

Best Practices

1. Abandoned coal seams shall not be kept exposed and covered with incombustible material to prevent any theft of coal.

2. Effective fencing on the top edge of the quarry shall be provided and maintained to prevent unauthorised entry inside the mine. Additionally, all along the periphery of the quarry, trench shall be cut to avoid unauthorised entry.

3. Regular inspection of the abandoned coal seam in the opencast mine to prevent unauthorised entry.
